MY STORY

I’m Ian Bucrek - founder of Grind Lab Fitness. I’ve been independently training consistently for nearly 20 years, starting at 17 years old while in college. Up until that point, I was an avid athlete since the age of 5, engaging in numerous sports such as wrestling, soccer, basketball, baseball, and golf. Over time, fitness evolved from a personal passion into a deep interest in how training, recovery, nutrition, and long-term consistency work together to shape both performance and physique outcomes.

Before pursuing coaching professionally, I spent years helping friends and friends of friends work toward their own fitness goals. In 2024, I became a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), turning something that had been a major part of my life for years into Grind Lab Fitness.

Outside of fitness, my primary career has been in aerospace engineering. I hold Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan and have worked across launch vehicles and commercial and military unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) in roles spanning rocket propulsion, systems engineering, flight test, Engineering management, and field service.

That engineering background heavily shapes how I approach coaching. The human body is a system, and no two people respond exactly the same way. Training performance, recovery, body composition, energy levels, stress, lifestyle, and consistency all provide feedback that helps determine what strategies will work best for an individual. My approach focuses on connecting the data to the human rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all solution.

I believe effective coaching is about creating clarity, structure, and sustainability. Real progress rarely comes from extreme short-term efforts. It comes from building momentum through consistent execution, smart adjustments, and stacking small wins over time. Hard-earned success is also not an accident; it’s the product of intentional, systematic planning and discipline, with an unrelenting focus on the goal.

That philosophy is what Grind Lab Fitness was built on:

RESULTS ENGINEERED.

Whether your goal is building muscle, losing fat, improving performance, or simply creating better long-term habits, my objective is to help you build a system that works for your life and keeps you moving forward long after motivation fades.

Outside of coaching, my own training, and my engineering career, most of my time is spent with my wife and two kids, along with hobbies like woodworking, outdoor activities, motorcycles, and other hands-on projects that keep me building and learning.
